2003 Pinot Gris
McFadden Farm
WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
This is a medium-bodied wine with delicate citrus, apricot and tropical fruit aromas leading to similar flavors with a hint of melon. The crisp, refreshing finish makes it a great wine to sip by itself or to drink with meals. We use the French term Pinot Gris rather than the Italian version Pinot Grigio, not only because this clone is from Alsace, but because the wine is true to its origins, with a richness and body more typical of the Alsatian style. You could even try it with a classic Alsatian dish like choucroute and charcuterie, or even with sauerkraut and sausages.
APPELLATION:
Potter Valley (Mendocino County)
VINEYARD:
McFadden Farm primarily grows white wine grape varieties, and in 2002 two new blocks of Pinot Gris, planted with Alsatian clones of the variety, came into production. McFadden Farm's crops are all certified organically grown. It is known for its organic herbs as well as its grapes.
VINTAGE:
The fruit from these young vines benefited from 2003's relatively even temperatures during late summer and early fall, in contrast to the heat that occurred during the first harvest in 2002. The grapes matured evenly with balanced ripeness and acidity.
COMPOSITION:
Pinot Gris 100%
