Cabernet Sauvignon vines at Wirth Ranch

2012 AFTERGLOW

SOLANO COUNTY GREEN VALLEY

WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
This deeply colored wine offers a complex mix of dark fruit flavors with hints of spice and cocoa. A touch of, also from Green Valley, enhanced the Cabernet fruit and tannins with bold flavors and a silky texture.

APPELLATION:
Solano County Green Valley

VINEYARD:
This small block of Cabernet vines, generally western-facing on a bench above Green Valley Road, struggles in shallow soil. It has lower yields of smaller clusters but more concentrated fruit, and moderate tannins.

VINTAGE:
This block generally ripens mid-season and 2012 was no exception. The hang time benefited the grapes' flavors and complexity. The yield was slightly above average, but still under 4 tons per acre.

VINIFICATION: Fermented in bins over twelve days. The entire lot went through malolactic fermentation.

COMPOSITION:
Cabernet Sauvignon 90%, Syrah 10%
