This is a ripe, full-bodied wine that combines intense berry
and plum flavors with notes of vanilla and spice, a touch of cedar, and a sweet finish.
Its soft tannins and acidity make it a pleasure to
drink now, and over the next several years.
Green Valley (Solano County)
Tucked in a corner of Solano County next to the larger Suisun Valley, this appellation is just starting to develop its own character.
Wirth Ranch's old, head-pruned vines are planted on a steep hillside where they receive sun all day. This orientation allows the Zinfandel to ripen, despite the fact that Green Valley tends to be slightly cooler than much of Suisun Valley. The block is dry-farmed. The block is dry=-farmed
This vineyard usually ripens early, but 2011 was a second straight cool year and harvest was late, at the end of September. Some late heat caused sugars to rise just before picking. The yields were modest, well under 3 tons per acre.
Zinfandel 92%, Syrah 8%
