King Vineyards, Suisun Valley

2008 ZINFANDEL

KING VINEYARDS

WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
This is a balanced wine with bright flavors of berry, cherry and spice. Though full-bodied, this Zin displays some restraint and complexity, and less jamminess. Its soft tannins and firm acidity play against intense fruit to make it a pleasure to drink now, and over
the next several years.

APPELLATION:
Suisun Valley (Solano County)
Suisun Valley is just beginning to achieve the reputation it deserves, given its favorable climate and soils and its superior combination of quality and value.

VINEYARDS:
This is a small hillside vineyard near the Napa County line. Warm daytime temperatures moderated by cool marine air in the evenings contribute to complex grape flavors with good acidity. The clone is from the Summit Lake vineyards on Howell Mountain.

VINTAGE:
Yields were down significantly in 2008, the 12th commercial harvest for this vineyard, to under 3 tons per acre. The vineyard was picked in two lots, about two weeks apart, to ensure consistent ripeness and balance.

COMPOSITION:
Zinfandel 95%, Petite Sirah 4%, Carignane 1%
