2007
PINOT GRIS
POTTER VALLEY
WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
True to its Alsatian origins,
this is a medium-bodied wine with delicate citrus, apricot
and tropical fruit aromas leading to similar flavors with
a hint of melon. The crisp, refreshing finish makes it a
great wine to sip by itself or with meals.
APPELLATION:
Potter Valley (Mendocino County)
VINEYARD:
McFadden Farm is known for its organic herbs as well as
grapes. Most of its organically farmed grapes are white
wine varieties, and in 2002 two new blocks of Pinot Gris,
from an Alsatian clone, were harvested for the first time.
VINTAGE:
The fruit from these
young vines benefited from generally even growing conditions during
much of the 2007 season, though heat just before harvest led to higher sugar levels than in the previous two years. The fruit retained good acidity, however, balancing gthe ripe flavors.
VINIFICATION:
Fermented in stainless steel containers; underwent malolactic
fermentation but was left on the secondary lees to eliminate
buttery esters
COMPOSITION:
Pinot Gris 100%, certified organic grapes
