Wine-Specific Conditions

It is a legal requirement in the United States that you must be 21 years of age or older to order or receive alcoholic beverages from Sunset Cellars. Receipt of shipments containing alcoholic beverages requires the signature of a sober adult (a person 21 years of age or older who is not intoxicated). Wines purchased from Sunset Cellars are not for resale, and are for personal consumption only.

Direct-to-Consumer Wine Shipping

In the US: Due to the ever-changing nature of each state’s alcoholic beverage shipping compliance laws, Sunset Cellars may ship wines, directly or indirectly, to most states in the US. This list of states changes frequently; please contact us if you have a question about getting Sunset Cellars wines shipped to you directly.

Sunset Cellars applies shipping costs at better-than-market rates whenever possible, utilizing a variety of common carriers. We are highly attuned to packaging, weather and carrier pitfalls that may damage or delay our precious wine cargo en route to your destination: please contact us if you have any questions. Shipping methods vary seasonally, and may default to include ground transport (5-7 days in transit), 2-Day Air (2 days in transit), or refrigerated-truck transport + local ground transport (3 weeks in transit).

We are pleased to provide paid upgrades in service at your instruction at the time of ordering. Simply choose your preferred method at checkout. However, once wine is in transit, we are not able to upgrade your shipping method.

International Shipping: Sunset Cellars is able to coordinate international shipment of Sunset Cellars wines on a regular basis to Japan. Shipping and customs/duties fees are all collected at the time of purchase. Please use online checkout, or contact us to arrange shipments and payment; please advise if you would prefer a bi-lingual assistant.

Wine is a Delicate Commodity

Wine is a perishable commodity. Wine does not like extremes of temperature: weather may adversely affect the condition of your wine during shipment. Sunset Cellars is not responsible for, and will not replace wine that is damaged by extreme weather during shipment. When your wine order is picked up by the common carrier for delivery, responsibility for the wine becomes the responsibility of the purchaser. Tracking numbers for shipments are provided via email that will allow you to follow transport and expect an estimated delivery date. Delivery times are never guaranteed as per all common carriers.

Return of Flawed Wines

By law, we cannot accept returns of alcoholic beverages unless the product is corked, or flawed. We are also unable to accept return of wine that was damaged due to adverse weather conditions during shipment, or wine that is ordered in error.

We will replace or refund you for any bottle of wine that is flawed or that the customer finds unsatisfactory. The unfinished portion of the original bottle must be returned to Sunset Cellars for replacement. Please send an email to support+jp@sunsetcellars.jp, and we will assist you with those arrangements. Once the wine is received we will refund the cost of the wine less shipping and handling.

Vine Owner’s Club

We aim to create a participatory winery where we make wine together with our wine club members. For our valued patrons, in addition to delivering wine, we will provide information data and imagery related to the grapevine for each individual. Our goal is to make the winemaking process at Sunset Cellars feel accessible and familiar. Please note that the terms and conditions of the wine club, as stated on the club page, may be subject to change without prior notice. Also, please understand that ownership of the grapevine does not include legal ownership of the grapevine or real estate.
